Zappit

Introduction

Zappit, a creation of Geoff Hall renowned for inventing Blackjack Switch, was acquired by Scientific Games, also known as Shuffle Master. The game’s core concept allows players to “zap” their hand if they land between 15 and either 17 or 18, depending on specific rules, replacing it with two random cards. However, to balance this advantage, any remaining bets stand when the dealer hits 22, resulting in a push instead of a win.

Presently, Zappit is exclusively available at online casinos such as Bodog and Bovada. Nevertheless, its presence was showcased at the 2015 Global Gaming Expo, indicating a potential introduction to land-based casinos in the near future.

Rules

Zap It follows traditional blackjack principles, with a unique twist:

  1. Players can “zap” their hand if the initial two cards total within a specified range, like 15 to 17, swapping them for the next two cards.
  2. Zapping is not allowed after a zap or after splitting.
  3. If the dealer busts with 22, any standing player hands result in a push.

Additional rules include:

  • A blackjack after zapping counts as an immediate winner, paying 1 to 1.
  • Zapping can occur before the dealer peeks for blackjack.
  • Six decks are used, and players may surrender or double after splitting.
  • Split aces receive one additional card each and cannot be re-split.
  • The dealer hits on soft 17, and blackjack before zapping pays 3 to 2.
  • Cards are typically shuffled after each hand.

Strategy

To master Zappit, focus on zapping when you have a total of 15 to 17, aiming to improve your hand. Avoid zapping if you have a strong hand, especially a blackjack. Prioritize understanding when to surrender or double after splitting. Additionally, stay vigilant about the dealer’s potential to bust with a 22, adjusting your strategy accordingly to maximize your advantage.
